Non ero mai stato a visitare questa oasi. Ne avevo sempre sentito parlare di begli scorci del lago, ma non mi ero mai deciso ad andare.
Il Lago della Gherardesca è un piccolo specchio di acqua, rimasuglio del lago più esteso della Toscana fino a metà dell’800: il Lago di Bientina o di Sesto. L’area è situata nella parte occidentale del “padule”, ai piedi del monte Pisano, ha una superficie di circa 30 ettari e si trova all’interno di una zona di protezione lungo le rotte di migrazione dell’avifauna. Qui vige il divieto di caccia. In quest’area vivono circa 3.000 uccelli, ed è luogo di passaggio per diversi esemplari di uccelli acquatici dei quali è possibile ammirarne il volo ed ascoltarne il dolce canto.
Il paesaggio è oggi costituito da distese di campi coltivati confinanti con due aree note protette di interesse locale, il Bottaccio e il bosco di Tanali. Ottimo posto per passeggiate, escursioni a piedi o in bicicletta, e per trascorrere del tempo con la natura.
Fotografare i diversi scorci del lago è una gioia. Specie nelle fredde mattine d’inverno, la nebbia e la foschia regalano scenari meravigliosi. Esplorare il lago nell’attesa di che il sole sorga ed illumini tutto, ti fa sentire parte della natura, uno spettatore coinvolto nei suoni del vento, degli uccelli, e man mano che il sole sale su, lo spettacolo volge al culmine, con mille sfumature di colore, mille dettagli nascosti dalla nebbia e dal fumo stagnante sul pelo dell’acqua.
Diversi punti sono apprezzabili: due piccoli moli di legno si immergono nell’acqua, e sono ottimi soggetti da fotografare (del resto i pontili sono sempre belli da fotografare). Alcuni casotti sulla riva opposta del lago sono apprezzabili nella foto, specie giocando coi riflessi. Inoltre, dopo una giornata di pioggia, innumerevoli pozzanghere si formano sulla strada, prestandosi a numerosi ed interessanti riflessi.
Non ci siete mai stati? Beh… provate… soprattutto la mattina presto. Un vero e proprio ristoro per la mente e per l’anima.
I had never been to visit this oasis. I had always heard of beautiful views of the lake, but I had never made up my mind to go.
Lake Gherardesca is a small mirror of water, a remnant of the largest lake in Tuscany until the mid-19th century: Lake Bientina or Sesto. The area is located in the western part of the “padule”, at the foot of Mount Pisano, has an area of about 30 hectares and is located within a protection area along the migration routes of the avifauna. Hunting is prohibited here. About 3,000 birds live in this area, and it is a place of passage for various specimens of water birds of which it is possible to admire their flight and listen to their sweet song.
The landscape today consists of expanses of cultivated fields bordering two known protected areas of local interest, the Bottaccio and the Tanali wood. Great place for walking, hiking or biking, and to spend time with nature.
Photographing the different views of the lake is a joy. Especially on cold winter mornings, the fog and mist offer wonderful scenery. Exploring the lake while waiting for the sun to rise and illuminate everything, makes you feel part of nature, a spectator involved in the sounds of the wind, the birds, and as the sun rises, the show comes to a head, with a thousand shades of color, a thousand details hidden by the fog and stagnant smoke on the surface of the water.
Several points are appreciable: two small wooden piers plunge into the water, and are excellent subjects to photograph (after all, the piers are always beautiful to photograph). Some huts on the opposite shore of the lake are visible in the photo, especially playing with reflections. Furthermore, after a rainy day, countless puddles form on the road, lending themselves to numerous and interesting reflections.
Have you never been there? Well … try … especially early in the morning. A real refreshment for the mind and soul.
